Step movements – how they work

Indexing gears and rotary indexing tables generate stepping movements of the output from a uniform rotary movement of the drive.

The movement sequence in general

The drive rotates continuously and generates a cycle with each revolution. The ranges of switching angle and detent angle are passed through.
The output executes a step when the drive passes through the indexing angle and stops when the drive passes through the detent angle. The size of the step is determined by the number of stations.

The movement of the output is controlled by a law of motion This is a mathematical function which determines the corresponding position of the output for each position of the drive. When a drive speed is specified, the speed and acceleration of the output are also determined.

The motion laws of our indexing gears and rotary indexing tables are selected in such a way that an extremely harmonious shock- and jerk-free movement results.
